Solar Battery Installations

Your inverter and battery setup determines how much of your solar energy you actually get to use. We design every system around proven, premium hardware from brands we trust, sized to match your property, your usage and your goals.

The Brands We Recommend

We lead with two brands for inverters and battery storage: Sigenergy and GoodWe. Both are brands we have chosen deliberately because they align with the quality and reliability we want behind every system we install.

Sigenergy takes a different approach to most. Their SigenStor is a modular all-in-one tower that combines the hybrid inverter, stackable battery modules, energy management and an optional 25kW bi-directional DC EV charger in a single unit. You start with an energy controller and add 8kWh or 10kWh battery modules as you need them, scaling from around 8kWh up to 48kWh without taking up extra floor space. Each module has its own built-in optimiser, so adding new modules later does not drag down the performance of existing ones. Sigenergy was founded in 2022 by the former president of Huawei’s Smart PV division and has quickly built a strong reputation with Australian installers. They carry an IP66 rating for outdoor and coastal installs, and warranty is 10 years on both the controller and battery modules.

GoodWe has been in the Australian market since 2012 and is now one of the largest hybrid inverter brands in the country. Their hybrid inverters cover single-phase and three-phase homes, and both are battery-ready out of the box. For storage, they offer two paths. The Lynx Home F is a DC-coupled battery that pairs with GoodWe hybrid inverters for a clean, single-brand setup at one of the most competitive price points from any major brand. The ESA G2 is an AC-coupled system that works with any existing inverter brand, making it the better choice if you are adding storage to an older system. Both carry 10-year product and performance warranties, and GoodWe’s Australian office is based in Melbourne.

We also install systems using Sungrow, Fronius, Tesla, Alpha and SolarEdge where a project calls for a specific setup.

What Does A Solar Inverter Do?

Your solar panels generate direct current (DC) electricity, but your home runs on alternating current (AC). The inverter converts one into the other so your appliances, lights and everything on your switchboard can actually use the power your panels produce.

Think of it as the engine room of your solar system. The panels capture the energy, but the inverter is what makes it usable.

GET SOLAR & BATTERIES WITH A $15,000 INTEREST-FREE LOAN

The NSW Government’s Home Energy Saver program lets eligible households borrow up to $15,000 at 0% interest to install solar, batteries and other energy upgrades, repaid over up to 10 years. No interest, no fees, and nothing to pay upfront.

First Sun Solar is an approved installer under the scheme, which means you can apply directly through us. We’ll design your system, confirm your eligibility, and refer you to the government’s approved finance provider to complete your application. You only ever repay what you borrow, and for most households the savings on your power bill cover the repayments from day one.

The loan also stacks with the federal battery rebate, so your out-of-pocket cost drops before the loan even kicks in.

How Do Solar Batteries Work?

A solar battery stores the excess energy your panels generate during the day so you can use it in the evening, overnight, or during peak tariff periods. Without a battery, that surplus gets exported back to the grid at a lower feed-in rate. With one, you keep more of what your panels produce.

Adding a Battery to an Existing System vs Starting Fresh

If you already have solar and want to add a battery, an AC-coupled battery connects to your switchboard and works with whatever inverter you already have. It is the simplest retrofit option, though there is a small efficiency loss from the extra conversion step.

If you are installing solar and a battery together from scratch, a DC-coupled battery connects directly to a hybrid inverter, skipping that extra conversion. It is more efficient, but the trade-off is that DC-coupled batteries typically only work with their matching inverter brand.
